In September of 2017 one of the most popular sim racing creators iRacing teased the sim world with a 2018 release of cars from the LMP1 category of the FIA World Championship Endurance (WEC) series. The headlines of the sport for years were Porsche and Audi with their LMP1 cars that were top notch technologies.
For the first time in iRacing history would you be able to get behind the wheel of one of these beast and blast it around the infamous Le Mans circuit in France. As of tomorrow March 6th, the Porsche 919 Hybrid and Audi R18 will be released for purchase on iRacing.
As iRacing takes much pride and detail into creating a real feel and look to their sim racing vehicles, the cars are from the 2016 season. In real life both of the cars and teams are retired from the sport due to economic hardships or moving to other racing series in the near future.
If you are not familiar with iRacing, the simulation is a membership base program not like other console games like Forza or other video games. Each track and car is purchased separately but the online game play with other drivers from around the world is series racing, not someone that just picked up the game at Best Buy this afternoon and comes in crashing everyone. iRacing has been around for years and sim racers take the online game play very series and iRacing even incorporated a driver rating system that will downgrade your license to playing with other “like-minded” or “skill” leveled drivers. This helps to have talented drivers racing with other talented drivers.
